The Family Bond
Do you get a feeling of overwhelming love when you are visiting your family?
No? Well I do and I want to tell you why.
My trip to Georgia is in less than 48 hours away and I am so excited. My daughter, Mallory, and I are making our way to Savannah, Georgia to visit my family. We are flying overnight on Jet Blue and landing in Jacksonville, FL on Wednesday.( Jet Blue deserves a shout out because they waived my ticket change fee and saved me $300. ) This trip is exciting because the last time I visited was in 2008 to attend a memorial for my late grandfather. I went by myself and it just wasn’t an exciting trip.
This trip is different. I am taking my 13 year old with me and it makes me happy that SHE is so excited to go. I really don’t remember the last time I took either one of my girls to GA because I could never afford it. Neither one of them have ever really been excited to go either because my family lives a peaceful, simple life. Life without WiFi, the best cable television, and great water pressure. Don’t get me wrong, my family has exactly what they need and want. That is just fine with me and I don’t mind it because I don’t have to live with them. I
want need some great water pressure AND WIFI. We have become accustomed to the lives we live and they have theirs. I sometimes miss such simple life.
Mallory and I will be staying with my grandmother from Wednesday to Friday. I have such a profound love for that woman! She lost my grandfather and hasn’t been the same since. From what I understand she is a recluse who doesn’t leave her house very often. I just want to sit and talk with her and of course hug her a whole bunch. My mom lives right next door, I mean just across the driveway, next door. I can’t stay with my mom because she smokes and it wreaks havoc on my allergies but I am so thankful that she is just across the driveway so I can see her as much as I want those two days.
My sister, Dawn, will pick me up on Friday after she gets my niece and nephew from school. I will stay with them on Friday night. My sister and I did not become close until we were both mothers and married. I moved away when I was 18 and we never got a chance to be close. I am thankful beyond words that I have the relationship that I do with her because I regret moving away so hastily at 18.
In total I have two nieces and three nephews that I get to see when I visit. A and R are my niece and nephew from my brother C. They are a very busy bunch but I am going to get my auntie sugar when I see them. My brother C and I had some words over a year ago and he won’t speak to me now. I have reached out many times, apologized more times than I can count but he is stubborn. Little does he realize that I am stubborn too and won’t give up easily. I asked my mom to reach out to him and let him know that I want to see him. Stay tuned for an update on that!
E and T are my niece and nephew from my sister Dawn. I usually stay with them and I get to be a true auntie when I see them. I get to play games and just sit and talk with them. It is one of my greatest joys. T is my nephew from my brother N. T was about two the last time I saw him and growing so fast! N recently got married and I get to meet his new wife. She has no idea what she got herself into with our family. I look forward to welcoming her and hopefully they will make me an auntie again.
The best thing about visiting is sitting and talking with my mom. We always have such deep, involved conversations. It’s like our bond gets a little loose and then we have those conversations and it’s stronger than ever.
I am hoping to also meet up with some friends from high school on Friday night. My 20 year high school reunion was this year and I had to miss it. Yes I did just admit that.
I am off to pack and finalize some details! I will do a review of my trip once I return.
Happy blogging y’all!
